The Ten Commandments and the Sermons:
The Commandments say: · Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee. · Thou shalt not kill. · Thou shalt not commit adultery. · Thou shalt not steal. Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour. · Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbour's.[1]
But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates.[2]
In these Commandments we observe the aspect of good but it is not the absolute good because relating the prohibition to kith and kin implies that what is prohibited is permitted when dealing with other than kith and kin… Abstaining from work on Saturday is attributed to the notion that Allah created the Universe in six days to take a rest on the seventh day. What day was it that Allah took a rest on, remembering that His Days differ from ours that last from sunrise to sunset, for Allah’s Days stand for the stages of creating the Universe that took millions of years? Allah Almighty says: “Verily a Day in the Sight of your Lord is like a thousand days of your reckoning.”[3]
Where is Saturday in a region the day of which lasts six months? Where is Saturday among the ten days of the Chinese week?[4]
Christians also believe in these Ten Commandments but they substituted Saturday for Sunday.
There are numerous other commandments that represent the Jewish Law. The Great Rabbi Israel from Jerusalem described them in a letter he addressed to his people: “He enjoined on the Jewish Nation laws and commandments that number 613. He confirmed these commandments and passed a stern judgment of cursing those who do not abide by them 613 curses, for in the 27th and 28th Chapters of Deuteronomy we read: ‘Cursed shall be he who does not do them one by one.’
This God—He be glorified and Exalted—some of whose Names in Hebrew are ‘Elohim’ and ‘Adonai’, has devised for those who disobey these commandments and do not abide by them a means to get rid of the curse inflicted on the disobedient; namely, offerings and sacrifices of a certain number of animals and birds that are to be made and offered inside the temple and altar. He who offers a sacrifice outside the temple shall be killed. Now, O my relatives and my people! I have seen that when the common people remaining of the Children of Israel disobey one of these commandments and incur one of the curses explained by our Master Moses (peace be upon him) in the Torah, they will not be able to get rid of it by any way. The door is then closed, for the Temple that Solomon established and that represented the Mosaic Dome and altar without whose existence no sacrifices are possible have been destroyed and have collapsed. The remaining portion of the Children of Israel can no longer get rid of their sins. It is impossible for you to come near to Allah, O my beloved ones! You are committed to the outcome of the curses imposed by the laws of your Torah. This is not my own word and I think it is not permissible to curse others, but they are the curses of your law and your Torah…. I just want to remind you of them so that you may get rid of them if you wish as I have got rid of them through embracing the Mohammedan religion that Moses and other Prophets (peace be upon them) illustrated to us.”[5] |
