The name of the god of the Jews:
Jews do not have only one name for Allah but several names, each of which carries a concept different from that carried by another. In addition to the word “Lord”, which has many uses, there are three names given to Allah: Adonai, Elohim and Yahweh.
Elohim: indicates the Attribute of being the Creator of all people. Yahweh: This is a name related to Jews exclusively. Therefore, they say that he is the god of the Ark of Covenant, and that the Creator called Himself “Yahweh” when he gave Moses the Covenant at Mount Sinai and that Allah had not declared His name “Yahweh” to the Prophets before Moses (peace be upon him): “And God spake unto Moses, and said unto him, I am the LORD. And I appeared unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob, by the name of God Almighty, but by my name JEHOVAH was I not known to them.”[1]
Adonai : a name to address the Creator respectfully and reverently. It means Allah, the Lord of the whole earth. Due to its frequent use it became a proper noun.[2] |
