Marital rulings devoted to the priests:

 

“Neither shall they [priests] take for their wives a widow, nor her that is put away: but they shall take maidens of the seed of the house of Israel, or a widow that had a priest before.”[1] Nobody knows why they gave this privilege to the priest. Is it because the priests themselves altered the text for their own good? Why was it permissible for the priest to marry the widow of another priest?[2]
