Sub-section Seven: the Contents of the Gospels:
Since the Message of Jesus the son of Mary was meant exclusively to the Children of Israel and not to all humanity, it was also limited in its content. Looking into the four Gospels approved by Christians (Matthew, Mark, Luke and John) we find that they contain the following material:
1. The lineage of Jesus and his birth.[1] 2. The relationship between John the Baptist and Jesus.[2] 3. Appealing for mercy to the poor, the hungry and peacemakers.[3] 4. Jesus came to fulfill the Law of Moses and not to annul it.[4] 5. Prohibition of adultery and abstaining from looking at women lustfully.[5] 6. Encouraging forgiveness and tolerance.[6] 7. asceticism.[7] 8. Advocating obedience to Allah.[8] 9. The power of Jesus to heal patients and do miracles.[9] 10.Prohibition of divorce except for the cause of fornication.[10] 11.Prohibition of marrying a female divorcee.[11] 12.Some moral pieces of advice.[12] 13.The story of arresting, interrogating, crucifying, burying and resurrecting Jesus.[13]
This is what we find in the Gospel of Matthew, and we find something similar in the other three Gospels (Luke, Mark and John) with contradictions among them in hundreds of positions and texts, for we rarely find a single text in a certain Gospel corresponding exactly to the same text in the other Gospels.[14]
The student of these Gospels will notice that more than 90% of their pages deal with the lineage of Jesus (peace be upon him), his birth, his healing patients and the alleged story of his crucifixion and the incidents preceding and following it. If we should collect his commandments concerning behavior we would find them constituting just a few pages. “These commandments were of little effect because they were not associated with the punishments that are required to protect them.”[15] Jesus (peace be upon him) prohibited adultery, murder and theft without decreeing any penalties. Sermons by themselves are not enough to regulate the society and deter the criminals.
