Sub-section Eight: Sermons difficult to carry out:
1. Jesus (peace be upon him) says: “whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also.”[1] 2. Jesus (peace be upon him) says: “resist not evil.”[2] 3. Jesus (peace be upon him) says: “Love your enemies, bless them that curse you.”[3] 4. Jesus (peace be upon him) says: “If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple…. So likewise, whosoever he be of you that forsaketh not all that he hath, he cannot be my disciple.”[4]
These are sermons a normal human being cannot put to action, and real everyday life confirms this. We have never seen a single Christian on being smitten on the right cheek turn his left cheek to him to smite it, too. On he contrary, Christians would retaliate for aggression by launching several times the like of the aggression. Their history is enough evidence to prove this, and it is still true even today. Moreover, many Christian states abuse those that are benevolent to them and wrong those that deal with them peacefully or surrender to them. So, the sermons and morals advocated by the Gospels are ideal and utopian and unsuitable for a human society. No man can be willing to give up all his wealth and oppose his innate nature that has been created loving wealth. Ironically, it is Christians who are the owners of capitals whether they represent states or individuals.
Thus the Gospels do not present practical solutions and they lack such decrees and laws as regulate the family and the society. We read in the Gospel of Matthew: “But I say unto you, that whosoever shall put away his wife, saving for the cause of fornication, causeth her to commit adultery: and whosoever shall marry her that is divorced committeth adultery.”[5] Yet Christians marry and divorce their wives, for this law is the work of the Christian clergy and it is imperfect and does not suit the reality of mankind. Muhammad al-Dainni says: “When the Catholic Church had authority and power over the state, Christians would resort to the bureaus of secret investigation to secure a certificate of fornication to submit to the court for the good of the person who desired to divorce the other spouse.”[6]
This is the Gospel of Jesus (peace be upon him) as Christians claim although there is not even a single proof to that whether with respect to the uninterrupted chain of narrators, or with respect to the language, for there is no Gospel or even a single manuscript in the language of Jesus (peace be upon him). Moreover it is not known how the Gospel was translated from Aramaic (the language of Jesus) into Greek, or who translated it and when and where the translation was carried out definitely. Add to this all the major and numerous contradictions and discrepancies among the Gospels, besides the impossibility of applying the sermons and commandments of Jesus in reality. |
