Sub-section Three: Jesus came from the Holy Spirit:
During your discussion with Christians, you may convince them that Jesus (peace be upon him) is neither a god nor the son of God, but they try to cling to anything available. If Allah helps you to prove that “the son of Allah” in the Holy Scripture is used figuratively and that Jesus (peace be upon him) was not the only person who came from no father, your debater may suggest something else. He may say: “But Jesus is “the son of Allah” because he came from the spirit of Allah through the Holy Spirit (Ghost).” Your answer would be: “Yes, we believe this, for it is mentioned in the Holy Qur’an. Allah (SWT) says: “We breathed into her of Our Spirit, and We made her and her son a sign for all peoples.” (XXI: 91) He (SWT) also says: “Then We sent her Our Spirit.” (XIX: 17)
But your Holy Scripture tells that Jesus (peace be upon him) was not the only person who came to life though the Holy Spirit. In Luke we read that the angel Gabriel, who came to Mary, came to Zacharias also after he had requested Allah to grant him a son. “But the angel said unto him, Fear not, Zacharias: for thy prayer is heard; and thy wife Elisabeth shall bear thee a son, and thou shalt call his name John. And thou shalt have joy and gladness; and many shall rejoice at his birth. For he shall be great in the sight of the Lord, and shall drink neither wine nor strong drink; and he shall be filled with the Holy Ghost, even from his mother's womb.”[1]
So, this is the Holy Spirit or Ghost, who filled the womb of Zacharias’ wife, who was an old sterile lady. It was the same Holy Spirit that blew into the womb of the mother of Jesus (Peace be upon him) to conceive him. In Luke we read: “And in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God unto a city of Galilee, named Nazareth, To a virgin espoused to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin's name was Mary.”[2] We find Luke associate the birth of John the Baptist (Yahya) with that of Jesus (peace be upon him). When Mary was astonished at the news that she would give birth to a child and she did give birth even without contacting any man, the angel says to her[3]: “Then said Mary unto the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man? And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee…. And, behold, thy cousin Elisabeth, she hath also conceived a son in her old age: and this is the sixth month with her, who was called barren for with God nothing shall be impossible.” If the Holy Spirit had been a god and every human being visited by him would have become into a god, then all those visited by the Holly Spirit must be gods, such as John the Baptist (Yahya the son of Zacharias) (peace be upon both of them) and also Virgin Mary and Elizabeth, the wife of Zacharias because the Holy Spirit came upon them, too, besides many other Prophets mentioned in the Old Testament. Following are some examples:
1. Prophet Ezekiel says: “And the Spirit of the LORD fell upon me, and said unto me, Speak; Thus saith the LORD.”[4] 2. Allah (SWT) says about Isaiah: “I have put my spirit upon him: he shall bring forth judgment to the Gentiles.”[5] 3. In Ezekiel we read: “And shall put my spirit in you, and ye shall live,”[6] meaning the soul. |
