Sub-section Two: Weakness of the chain of narrators of the Gospels:
The oldest Gospels available today were not written at the time of Jesus Christ or immediately after he was raised to heaven, or even several year thereafter. The first Gospel was indeed written a long time after Jesus (peace be upon him) was raised to heaven. It is said that there were many reasons behind the delay in writing them: 1. The spread of the notion of the second advent of Jesus before the generation that was contemporaneous with Jesus (peace be upon him) died. 2. The persecution the Jews and Romans inflicted on the Disciples of Jesus. Ibn Hazim gives us a clear picture of the events and circumstances the call of Jesus (peace be upon him) experienced, saying: ‘As to the Christians, there was no controversy among them or among other people about the fact that no more than 120 persons believed in Jesus during his life. Any one of those (believers) who was arrested was either stoned to death, hanged or killed with the sword or poisoned. They stayed in that state, never appearing, and having no secure place to resort to for three hundred years after Jesus (peace be upon him) had been raised. During that period the authentic Gospel revealed by Allah (SWT) disappeared except for short chapters Allah (SWT) preserved to be an argument against them and shame on them.”[1] [1] Shtawi, Muhammad Shalabi, Al-Injil: Dirasa wa Tahlil, pp. 14-15.
