Creation as described in the Holy Qur’an: Allah (SWT) says: “Lo! Your Lord is Allah, Who created the heavens and the earth in six days.” (VII: 54) Allah (SWT) says: “Say: Is it that you deny Him Who created the earth in two days? And do you join equals with Him? He is the Lord of (all) the Worlds. He set on the (earth), mountains standing firm, high above it, and bestowed blessings on the earth, and measured therein all things to give them nourishment in due proportion, in four days, in accordance with (the needs of) those who seek (sustenance). Then turned He to the heaven when it was smoke, and said to it and to the earth: ‘Come both of you, willingly or unwillingly.’ They said: ‘We come, obedient.’ Then He ordained them seven heavens in two days and inspired in each heaven its mandate; and We decked the nether heaven with lamps, and rendered it inviolable. That is the measuring of the Mighty, the Knower.” (LXI: 9-12) Allah (SWT) also says: “Do not the Unbelievers see that the heavens and the earth were joined together (as one unit of creation), before we clove them asunder? We made from water every living thing. Will they not then believe?” (XXI: 30) Allah (SWT) also says: “It is He Who has created for you all things that are on earth; Moreover His design comprehended the heavens, for He gave order and perfection to the seven firmaments; and of all things He hath perfect knowledge.” (II: 29) Allah (SWT) also says: “And We have created above you seven paths, and We are never unmindful of creation.” (XXIII: 17)
Allah (SWT) also says: “He created seven heavens in layers. You do not see any imperfection in the creation by the Most Gracious.” (LXVII: 3)
Allah (SWT) also says: “See ye not how Allah has created the seven heavens one above another, and has made the moon a light therein, and made the sun a lamp?” (LXXI: 15-16)
Allah (SWT) also says: “And (have We not) built over you the seven firmaments, And placed (therein) a glowing lamp?” (LXXVIII: 12-13)
Allah (SWT) also says: “Allah is He Who created seven heavens and the same number of earths. Through the midst of them (all) descends His Command: that you may know that Allah has power over all things, and that Allah comprehends all things in (His) Knowledge.” (LXV: 12)
Allah (SWT) also says: “Have they not then observed the sky above them, how We have constructed it and beautified it, and how there are no rifts therein?” (L: 6)
Allah (SWT) also says: “He created the heavens without pillars that you can see.” (31: 10)
Allah (SWT) also says: “Allah is He Who raised the heavens without any pillars that you can see; and he then istawa ‘ala al-‘Arsh (was firmly established on the throne (of authority)[1] and He has subjected the sun and the moon (to his Law)!” (XIII: 2)
Allah (SWT) also says: “And He withholds the heaven from falling on the earth except with His permission.” (XXII: 65)
Allah (SWT) also says: “and He raised the heaven…” (LV: 7)
Besides the verses concerning creation there are many verses dealing with astronomy. Following are some examples:
1. The sun and the moon:
Allah (SWT) says: “He makes the night for rest and tranquility, and the sun and moon for the reckoning (of time).” (VI: 96)
Allah (SWT) also says: “The moon we designed to appear in phases, until it becomes like an old curved sheath.” (XXXVI: 39)
Allah (SWT) also says: “He is the One who rendered the sun radiant, and the moon a light, and He designed its phases that you may learn to count the years and to calculate. Allah did not create all this except for a specific purpose. He details the revelations for people who have knowledge.” (X: 5)
Allah (SWT) also says: “Most blessed is the One Who placed constellations in the sky, and placed in it a lamp, and a shining moon.” (XXV: 61)
2. The stars:
Allah (SWT) says: “By the sky and al-Tariq. Do you know what al-Tariq is? The piercing Star!” (LXXXVI: 1-3)
Allah (SWT) also says: “And a piercing projectile pursues him.” (XXXVII: 10)
3. The planets:
Allah (SWT) says: “Lo! We have adorned the lowest heaven with an ornament, the planets.” (XXXVII: 6)
Allah (SWT) also says: “When the heaven is cleft asunder, and when the planets are dispersed.” (LXXXII: 1-2)
4. The lower heaven:
Allah (SWT) says: “And we rendered the sky a guarded ceiling…” (XXI: 32)
Allah (SWT) also says: “And We adorned the lower heaven with lights, and (provided it) with guard…” (LXI: 12)
5. The structure of heaven: Allah (SWT) says: “And it is He Who created the bight and the day, and the sun and the moon, each in an orbit floating.” (XXI: 33)
Allah (SWT) also says: “It is not for the sun to overtake the moon, nor doth the night outstrip the day. They float each in an orbit.” (XXI: 33)
6. Alternation of night and day:
Allah (SWT) says: “He brings the night as a cover over the day, seeking it rapidly…”(VII: 54)
Allah (SWT) also says: “A sign for them is night: We strip it off the day, and lo! They are in darkness.” (XXXVI: 37)
Allah (SWT) also says: “Do you not realize that Allah merges the night into the day and merges the day into the night?” (XXXI: 29)
Allah (SWT) also says: “He rolls the night over the day, and rolls the day over the night.” (XXXIX: 5)
7. The expansion of the universe:
Allah (SWT) says: “We have built the heaven with might, and We are expanding it.” (LI: 47)
8. The invasion of space:
Allah (SWT) says: “O you jinns and humans! If you can penetrate the outer limits of the heavens and the earth, go ahead and penetrate. You cannot penetrate without authorization.” (LV: 33)
Allah (SWT) also says: “Even if we opened for them a gate into the sky, through which they would continue climbing, they would only say: ‘Our eyes have been intoxicated: Nay, we have been bewitched by sorcery.’” (XV: 14-15)
We have only cited some of the verses that deal with astronomy in the Holy Qur’an as examples, and there are many others. In addition, there are many verses referring to the earth, water and seas, botany and zoology, and human reproduction, etc. Specialists in these fields would find astounding miracles in the Holy Qur’an.
